i am really bad at watching movies so i am still only halfway through despite it having been a few days but this movie is great and i can highly recommend it so far heaps of fun :)
1/11/23
listened to it this morning hoping it would give me more energy it did not but we cannot fault it for that i think god herself could not give me more energy right now
1/11/23
havent listened to this one in a while (like a month maybe lol) and yeah still one of the albums that is wedged inside my soul forever. should have raised a baby girl i could have been a better son etc etc
2/11/23
good not sure i was in the right headspace to really appreciate it though
2/11/23
ough
2/11/23
"i think about that, and then i sorta black out"
3/11/23
great fucken album as always. prison song remains one of my favourite songs ever
3/11/23
beloved album. reshaped my brain. personal space invader is so much to me personally
4/11/23
saw five short films by this bloke today, this was the first. he was actually physically there at the screening, which was very cool!
he said this film was 'a portrait of his mother'. you can read about it on the qagoma website, but i felt the main point of interest of the film was the cycles: there was a big focus on the passing of the seasons over the course of (presumably) one year. i loved the textures & the rooster motif (& the cats!!), but my main takeaway was this kind of contemplation on the nature of growing elderly: we conceive of life as extremely linear, but in reality the elderly experience the seasons just as much as we do. a life is not built of linear segments but of cycles, and i thought that was really interesting.
THAT SAID. it was long. 24 minutes is a long time for a film. three stars - that's really just because i DID enjoy it, but i think the Cinema Experience was a lot of the enjoyment.
4/11/23
this was my favourite of the five by FAR. this film FUCKS. hard to pinpoint exactly what i loved about i but i will do my best.
it is about an artist, filmed within his studio, but the artist himself doesn't feature; neither does much of his studio. when watching i was left primarily with the impression of a just-here absence. it also made me think about the role of classical art in contemporary society, which i THINK was intentional? that's what it felt like it was getting at, anyways.
afterwards, i learnt that the artist in question (friend of the filmmaker Jacques Dehornois) had died after filming but before editing, so i think the feeling of just-here absence was intentional. it was a really good short film, and only five minutes - impressive.
4/11/23
ths one was without sound, and honestly that was probably the most interesting part? made me think more about the role of sound in experiencing a place. there was a particular sequence of shots that i LOVED that i will try and describe
there was a marble statue (light, dark background) and a man on a bench (dark, light background). there was a shot of the statue's face (from the right) and then a shot of the man's face (from the left), and then back to the statue - did a couple of those comparitive shots but then somehow in the middle switched so the shots of the man were first?? i'm not doing it justice it was really cool. i cant put into words what i think it was about but it sure was About Things.
4/11/23
this one was in german i think it would be 5 stars if i could understand it. but no subtitles. the music was really good though i really liked the music
4/11/23
this one was also longer (about 30 minutes) but it was good. i liked how it pulled the last four together, i liked the fire sequences, i REALLY liked the shadow stuff & the book sequences. also the shot of the curtain comparing it to a marble column? excellent. also the shots w/ the woman.. dont know who she was obviously but i liked those parts they were cool. i think the voiceover parts were not as good though and i think that's where it loses a star, for me.
5/11/23
ERRYBODY GATHER ROUND! everybody look and SEE. what becomes of TRESPASSERS with no respect for PROPERTYYYYY!!!!!
i listened to this musical for the first time in 2020 bc i was crushing on a girl who was real into musical theatre it never went anywhere but the musical fucks i really love it. highly recommended i love orpheus and eurydice retellings
6/11/23
every time i listen to misery business the feminism leaves my body for 3 minutes and 19 seconds
6/11/23
john darnielle: hast thou considered the tetrapod
me, through tears: i sure am considering it john
10/11/23
OBSESSED obsessed obsessed with lisa carol fremont. miss fremont call me anytime.
12/11/23
experimenting with my rapidly changing voice by singing along to this while doing the dishes this morning, was a great time. i have this album on cd (sister found it for me at a tip shop) and i don't have that many cds so i have heard this album probably over a hundred times. it's great fun to sing
13/11/23
not as good as toxicity or steal this album but still pretty good i liked it
14 + 15 + 16/11/23
somewhat of a lifeline the past few days thiank u system of a down
17/11/23
friend had never heard it so obviously we had to remedy that immediately
19/11/23
i suggested a twilight marathon to my best friend without realising how many of these goddamn movies there are and now im being held to it. pray for me
this movie was awful i nearly fell asleep at one point and that was the best part of the movie. second best part was making fun of how bella looks like shes having an orgasm at a lot of baffling and inopportune times (sleeping, broken leg). shes like actually the fucking worst though i hate her so much already. edward i cannot hate because he has no personality. hes just a nothing of a dude. i like alice
19/11/23
watched this on 1.5x speed and it was slightly more tolerable. after this i refused to continue the marathon so that's it for twilight :)
19/11/23
change of pace
19/11/23
if the last ten minutes of this movie were entirely different it would be probably my favourite moive ever but the DID misrepresentation (and transphobia for spice) do kinda sour the vibe
20/11/23
insane movie really bad everyone in it is so stupid but its better than twilight
21/11/23
a fun time but i am kind of baffled as to how the hell they made more movies in this franchise like hes DEAD dead. rip maggie i loved your bisexual swag
22/11/23
liked this better than the book tbh but also I haven't read the book since I first got it so like don't hold me to that. everyone in this movie was hot as fuck including snow but hes also The Worst
first time seeing peter dinklage in anything he was great
24/11/23
watched today with friend bc he had never seen it, this movie fucks so hard dude
heath ledger was so hot in this and im obsessed with his no-spoken-lines punk boy best friend
25/11/23
vicinity of obscenity is an insane track i'm kind of obsessed
26/11/23
was in love with this album for so long,,, ive kind of moved on now but like its still good
26/11/23
26/11/23
the house the car the keys the girls the front door the back door and the footballer next door
26/11/23
my singing voice is lower than his now hrt is so cool
27/11/23
27/11/23
30/11/23
dude something about early mountain goats,,,, so perfect for summer for some reason
i think dance music is becoming my favourite track on this album but also i cant pick a favourite
1/12/23
FUCKS. listening to this on speaker was risky tho
1/12/23
giving this 3 stars but that's 3 stars for a live gig it's very hard to have a live music event i don't thoroughly enjoy. the songs were not really my style but I liked the last one a lot
1/12/23
these guys are so fucking great I had a good time seeing the other bands but i was there to see them. THEY COVERED TOXIC IT FUCKED SO HARD. and i gave them the pins i made them AND I GOT A FREE MERCH TSHIRT. fucking incredible dude i fucking love this band shoutout safety hazard from brisbane
1/12/23
this was a debut! the first two songs were kind of ehhhh, I wasn't super enthused, but then it got super jazzy and awesome (a guy brought out a trumpet ?!?) id see them again if i got the chance
1/12/23
duuuuude these guys were fucking sick. two saxophones and a trombone in a single band is just like too high concenttration of awesome. they were fucking great i loved their original stuff and their covers FUCKED. and they were all hot particularly the trombonist i was staring at him the whole time. holy fuck
2/12/23
4.5 stars really,,, it was really good i really enjoyed it took me forever to finish but it was really good. however it was very dated (as one might expect) and i did struggle a little bit with the longwinded speeches about god and duty and whatnot
3/12/23
holy shit dude
5/12/23
some of the songs on here are great and i love them wholeheartedly and some of them are bad and i love them wholeheartedly
to me this album no longer belongs to taylor swift it belongs 2 me and my friends and she cannot have it back lol
8/12/23
the best ever death metal band out of denton never settled on a name but the top three contenders after weeks of debate were 'satans fingers' and 'the killers' and 'the hospital bombers'
9/12/23
i know this is the point but theres something very wrong with that guy
10/12/23
great film. im glad it ended on a hopeful note otherwise i think it would have been too difficult to watch? was already a prison abolitionist but this movie continued to hammer in the point.
tim robbins was incredible in this role everyone did a great job.
i have so much crocheting to do for christmas presents so i'm working my way down the imdb top 250. this was a rewatch but the godfather will be next and i'm looking forward to it!
10/12/23
lowkey i hated this movie it was so boring and so long. loved don vito corleone but then he wasnt really in the movie all that much.. al pacino was hot in this i guess
idk it was a good movie like it was well made and obviously it's very highly regarded but man it was so..... boring. like i did not give a shit about anyone in this movie most of them sucked and not even in like a fun and interesting way they were just shitty. and the misogyny.
12/12/23
to borrow words from my dear friend, heath ledger's joker slays the house down in this movie. oh my god. i was in love from the first scene
i am FASCINATED with this movie. trying to determine whether they made the joker seem queer and disabled for garden variety homophobia and ableism reasons, or if they were saying something interesting on purpose. because if it was on purpose this is SO INTERESTING!! the layers the elements the themes etc etc. if they didn't want me to do queer analysis on the joker they shouldnt have made him queer idk i didn't make the rules.
anyways, huge shoutout to the scene where he takes off the wig and shakes out the gross dyed hair, huuuuuuuge fan. really the whole nurse sequence i rewound it several times to watch it again. also the interview sequence. really i'm just a huge fan of this joker hes fully entrancing.
also, it's undeniable that christian bale is easy on the eyes though that mask was godawful lol. umm. i have actual thoughts about this movie other than thinking the joker has autistic faggot swag i SWEAR im just not good at verbalising them.
lost a star cause a lot of it was like.... edgy without substance and also the like sheer quantities of cops i had to pretend to care about. but i loved this movie and i will be rewatching it for sure
13/12/23
have been rereading this series in bits and pieces slowly, i have it all as one volume. good fun, easy to read, simple puzzles, great for the age it's aimed at (8-14 year olds)
happy acab day btw
20/12/23
shed a single manly tear while listening to dance music on the bus today
20/12/23
i really like this album i listened to it SO MUCH when this movie first came out and i decided it was time to come back to it,,,, still pretty good i think Home is my favourite track now
21/12/23
hoooooly fuck this movie is so good i have to get everyone i know to watch it. brilliant brilliant film. i understand it was a play first? would like to see a production of it.
22/12/23
it was good i liked it. love when music is Sounds
22/12/23
idk it was good very ambient,,, kind of too ambient to hold my attention for that long but like i did enjoy it
22/12/23
trying to listen to more rap music (following deadoat's recommendations) because i feel like its a gap in my musical appreciation. it's probably never going to be a favourite genre for me but i am starting to discover some albums that i like and this is one of them
the clever lyricism on this album is awesome and i love the atmosphere,,, according to friend it was made in a hotel room on a laptop? awesome
22/12/23
awesome
22/12/23
i will probably like this a lot more when i sit down to listen to it properly i kind of wasnt paying that much attention just needed background music? but as it stands i liked it, it was good, there's a lot of ways to make money in this world but i can't recommend insurance fraud
five stars really but i feel like i can't give it that until i acutally like listen to it properly,,,, i will probably love it when i do
23/12/23
i love this album sososomuch place in my heart forver
23/12/23
i think this is the best coldplay album it was all downhill after this. album that lives in my heart
23/12/23
was listening to this to fall asleep but i couldnt fall asleep lol so im logging this. really good album
24/12/23
i feel like i need to make the criteria for a 5 star media harder cause i love tea for the tillerman and i love the sunset tree and i love parachutes but those albums are NOT all in the same category of good. to put parachutes at the same level of good as Moonlight 2 is actually a fucking crime im so sorry
30/12/23
this is like nothing i've ever heard before. it's incredible i think this is one of the best podcasts i've ever heard? i have to sleep now but holy fuck
31/12/23
this continues to be really good,,,,, and dare i say hot.
1/1/24
not sure what to say... like obviously it was really good. some day i will listen to this while reading the lyrics and then i think i will be able to enjoy it properly? but like.. regardless it was really good
emotional support album to help me write email (didn't work)
7/1/24
fun time loved the dinosaurs lesbian girl power etc
why was the mathematician tits out for so much of the movie??? appreciated it lowkey shoutout him even though he was the worst
9/1/24
it was good,,, took me a while to get my head around but the characters were delightful. i know i'm missing something there are too many extra bits that are clearly about something/saying something but i am not good enough at literary analysis to know what they are,,, it wasn't a sad ending but as i finished the book i realised it was about something sad, if that makes sense? but i don't think i could say with any confidence what that was
10/1/24
andrew eldritch is moving back to leeds.....
13/1/24
really good,,,,, we were the one thing in the galaxy god didn't have his eyes on
14/1/24
this movie was really bad. i wanted to see a horror B-movie and thats what i got but like.... it was boring and racist+ableist as shit, like during the movie i was just like this is..... gross. and NO fun gore to speak of. only a little bit and all unfun. and the monster looked so fucking stupid man like it was... awful. like i was actually restraining laughter every time it was onscreen. 1 star for the sequences with elliot and the mum in the water at the end those were like,,,,, visually interesting and engaging. and the wishing well comparison was cool but the racism all entangled up in that bit put me off it enough that i couldnt really enjoy it.
anyways if youre considering watching this movie just know that its entire vibe is "disabled people suck the life force out of the ableds around them & the most noble thing they can do is die"
15/1/24
It was like, fine.... lowkey 2 sex scenes with adam driver in a row was too many for me. i think they were trying to like, highlight the women behind the story intentionally? but they didn't *do* anything so it just felt kind of bland. umm seeing cars go vroom was fun:)
that crash sequence though,,,,, sorry i know it was a tragedy but the filming was unintentionally funny. they were just knocked down like dominoes lmao my first reaction was to laugh
21/01/24
good,,, i'm only like 3.5 episodes in but calling it now that i have to go to sleep. so far it's pretty solid i guess? idk it's not like a stunning piece of television it's like, fine, it's fun, i'm enjoying it, joyce is the fucking worst but like also autistic as hell so i am like alternating on whether or not i care about her... idk i like all the side characters basically but finding joyce (protagonist) very 2 dimensional she doesnt really hve anything interesting going on
give me more about her sister shelly i want to know about shelly
22/01/24
watched this cause i needed a slasher with hot people to get through the day after i accidentally stayed up all night,,,,, pretty good! i liked it! not much like my nightmares which is good i appreciate that would have been upsetting if it was. kinda lost on the ending,,,, i know thats the point but sorry ilike knowing what happens
deadoat just watched all 9 freddy movies in 2 days he has more interesting thoughts than me on them
25/01/24
really a 3.5, it was like,,, fine idk. deeply mediocre tv. the second to last episode was so shit dude the whole last bit was so fucking.... boring?
glad they like took a stand against homophobia or whatever man idk dont watch this. if you want a show set in the 70s about art people navigating their success then watch daisy jones & the six, if you want to see dicks just watch porn theres nothing in this show that wasnt done better elsewhere
26/01/24
god i love this show everyone should watch this show
29/01/24
it's a good show always makes me want to do music
04/02/24
the planned marathon begins,,,,,, i love this movie i wont lie the pacing was good i felt but like,,,, you know. also the snake
04/02/24
undeniably worse than the first one but i loved vicky which raises it in my estimations,,,, vicky shouldve been the final girl
06/02/24
there were a lot of different stories some i liked more than others.. it was really nice to read a specifically australian anthology. think it would have been improved by focusing more on gay indigenous australian perspectives but still a really good read i thought
12/02/24
link for context this paper was bad,,, i appreciated the sources it gave me and some of the quotes were useful (was having a discussion with friends) but i disagree with the conclusions wholeheartedly and some of it was outright gross. lotr IS a racist work in many ways and you cant really be like "well look at the overall themes!" to get out of that.i love it a lot obviously its a fundamental work to me but like,,,, this bitch (tolkien) racist as fuck and you do need to acknowledge that (even if he maybe wasn't like notably worse than other middle/upper class white guys of the time period)
19/02/24
i don't like... feel qualified to comment on this? as is the nature of anthologies i liked some better than others. it was interesting reading though i'd be keen to read more in this vein i thought it was a great premise
20/02/2024
they both sucked so bad obviously but i'm like... kind of entranced by Celine
my apologies to deadoat i know he fucken hated this film but i liked it and they were both easy to look at even though jesse sucked so bad
27/02/24
ummm i had to leave 2/3rds of the way through this so like i missed a bunch and also have never seen the first film. this felt like it was trying to be four different movies that were drastically different in vibes and i only liked one of them? the like intense blue scenes were cool i liked em everything else,,, ehhh,,,, and jesus christ the scenes in the psychiatric hospital were viscerally upsetting like really awful
05/03/24
KISS MY BATTERY ILL BE YOUR ANDROID GIRL
gerard was insane for that line it lives in my head forever
11/03/24
rating this is hard,,, i need a better rating system i think
obviously this is a really good album. there were parts of this that i really really liked and i think i would really love this album if i could listen to it but there's two specific sections that like,,, threw my soul out of my body (in a dissociation way not a positive way). i may try to download this and fuck with the mp3s so i can listen to this without feeling like i need to throw up because i do think i would really like it if i could listen properly
01/04/2024
awesome obviously
4/4/24
it was good i had fun it wasn't scary like i expected though
12/04/2024
havent read this since i was a kid... not sure what i think of it quite frankly but i enjoyed it. moss's interpretation was interesting - he suggested that hyde does not actually exist as a separate person and that jekyll is unreliably documenting his own experiences. which makes sense and is interesting!
super short too which was nice lol. maybe i should turn to classics for fiction.. i really liked love in the time of cholera wait shit did i even log that im not sure i did
18/04/2024
i dont recommend this book. it's about cults... written by a true crime fan and podcaster lol. the first half or so is pretty alright since it's mostly informational there's no real arguments being presented for the most part?
it did piss me off how she just namedropped a bunch of cults without explaining any context for any of them but whatever i discovered the glossary at the end so i guess shes absolved. even tho i wish she told me about it earlier.
the second half of the book is... bad. it's bad. unsourced/unreliably sourced and she draws some wild conclusions... conclusions i don't even necessarily disagree with but like the arguments are so stupid that i dont want to be seen agreeing you know??
anyways got to learn some more about a cult that was apparently operative in my home town. wild.
20/04/2024
i would really recommend this book!!! i also really loved how to read literature like a professor by the same author but i didnt finish it before i had to return it to the library so i didnt log it. this book was great though, prose was super readable, author is good at writing.
at least for me, it sparks this desire to read and think and celebrate good writing. i've been reading more nonfiction lately so this came at a timely interval. it also gives a handy list of interesting high quality nonfiction books to investigate that i appreciate! picked up Blue Nights from the library which I will be logging next.
lost a star because the author is super fucking centrist and it pisses me off sometimes lol but it's worth reading anyways
20/04/2024
jesus i don't even really know what to say here. i teared up obviously. it made me think about parenthood in a way i never really thought about before. and death, and dying..
this book is about the death of joans only daughter quintana. it is extremely readable and direct. you find yourself slipping easily into what feels like her thoughts only to be reminded sharply by didion of the fallibility of the form. i would recommend this
what i actually wanted to read was the year of magical thinking but the library didn't have it :(
21/04/2024
1am and i just finished rewriting the script i use to update these! slightly different format from here on out. the star rating system wasn't really working for me.
24/04/2024
been wanting to read this book since i was 15 but i didn't really know what to expect. i feel like i don't understand it but i want to read it again
24/04/2024
listening to a bunch of albums today that my parents played when i was a kid
24/04/2024
24/04/2024
love this album/track (it's all one song) ive listened to it a bunch now
24/04/2024
you slipped free without me :(
25/04/2024
THE CREATURE!!!!!!!!!!!!
27/04/2024
niamh and deadoat are both huge kurt vonnegut fans so it was inevitable that i would read one of his books eventually,,, went with this one because deadoat recommended it specifically.
i actually don't know what to do with myself having finished this. god damn it, you've got to be kind. i guess i just reread it now?? i will be thinking about eliot rosewater forever.
